Timber Raised Bed Kits For Vegetable Gardening

These timber raised bed kits are perfect for growing your own vegetables in the garden, allotment or polytunnel. We've re-designed our Premier range of raised vegetable beds. We decided to go for a chunkier version of the hugely popular 'Classic' bed made with a much thicker 35mm timber. This means that as well as looking the part in any garden, they also last much longer. The 14 inch high premier is ideal for growing a wide range of herbs and salads as well as climbing plants like peas and beans and deeper root crops like parsnips, carrots and potatoes.

Raised beds take all the hard work out of vegetable gadening, they are raised so less bending is required, soil can be treated for individual crops without having to treat the entire garden. They are also a very neat and tidy way to grow your own. A row of raised beds in the garden or polytunnel looks very neat and professional. Click for more info on raised beds.

We deliver all our raised beds right to your door all across Ireland and the UK. Delivery is only 3.95 per order, regardless of the amount of raised beds ordered. Raised beds will be shipped out in easy to assemble flatpack kits with any required fixings included as well as full assembly instructions.

Robust Long Life Raised Bed Kits

All our beds are made from timber cut and treated to our specification in our our local sawmills. The preservative used is certified by the soil association safe for use with organic food crops. We treat all our timber after it has been cut to size, this means that every part of the raised bed will be treated properly and will last longer as a result. Alot of other raised bed manufacturers treat their timber and then cut to size, meaning the ends will remain untreated and will tend to rot much earlier. The Premier range of raised beds will last 10 good years as a solid vegetable planter.

Choose Your Size:

We supply the Premier 14in kits in a variety of sizes to fit any garden type. Sizes available: 3ft x 3ft, 4ft x 4ft, 6ft x 3ft, 6ft x 4ft, and the gigantic 6ft x 6ft. You can choose the required size by clicking the BED SIZE tab above the add to cart button.

Ordered 8ftx4ft premier raised bed and very pleased. Exactly as described/pictured. Looks good and easy to put together on my own, using an electric screwdriver. Delivery was within the timescale quoted. Thank you, and if I need another one I will be back!

I bought 2 premier 6ft x 3ft raised beds for my greenhouse. I did quite a bit of research before deciding to order from Quickcrop. I’m so pleased I did. These are absolutely fantastic. Very heavy kits which came with extra screws. All you need is electric screwdriver and they are up in no time. The quality is brilliant and will last a very long time. Thought I would try raised beds instead of the usual grow bags in our large greenhouse and they look lovely. Looking forward to growing my veggies this year! Had to wait for delivery due to current situation but I was aware of that when I placed my order and definitely worth the wait. Thank you to all the staff at Quickcrop!

Purchased 2 raised beds. Arrived when expected and delivery was placed on my drive. Unfortunately they were minus correct screws etc but these could have been displaced in transit. Needs 2 people to assemble and went together easily. Quality of wood is good with smooth finish. I've given 5 as the product is better than anticipated.

Raised bed quality is excellent and it was easy to assemble. But delivery was a shambles . Waited in two days when delivery was booked with Parcelforce and they didn't arrive . Arrived the next day with no notice and package was clearly marked with delivery date of first booked day .Packaging was badly damaged and if it had contained small parts they would have been lost .Regret will not order again if they continue to use Parcelforce .

I bought the 8ftx4ft premier raised bed last year. It is very good quality treated wood. Assembly is straight forward, although I would recommend a good quality cordless drill/screwdriver. Only 1 year old but still looks new.

Easy to assemble and very solid. Great flexible delivery (was left behind the green bin). I should have ordered the higher one but that is my own fault. The product (Premier raised bed kit) is exactly as described: very good quality, robust, easy to assemble with clear instructions. Delivery was quick and efficient. My only small negative was that I had to call to confirm the delivery date (which was the day after I made the call) rather than receiving an e-mail as advised at the time of purchase. Overall very pleased with the transaction.

You just screw it together, and you have a very solid Raised bed. I got 4 premier beds and they look great in my back garden, the good quality timber really goes with the fencing. They feel like they are going to last many years. Well pleased with my purchase (4 for the price of 3) can't argue with that.

Hi I have ordered 3 x 8ft x 3ft raised beds at 21 inch high. Could you tell me how 1 ton bags I need to fill please. Thanks Rob
Answered by Niall
on October 20th, 2021
Hi Robert To fill from top to bottom you will need roughly 3,700 litres of veg mix to fill them which is 5 x tonne bags. That said you really only need the good veg mix in the top half of the beds so you could use old soil, compost, even gravel in the base and put maybe 1 bag of the veg mix in each bed at the top Niall Quickcrop

Do the corner posts extend below the bottom of the sides? If so how far?
Answered by Niall
on September 20th, 2021
Hi Clive No. They are flush with the base of the bed. They don't need to go in to the ground as once the beds have been filled with soil they won't move an inch Niall Quickcrop

Just checking the measurements include the depth timber? I.e the measurements shown aren’t the bed/soil area and we have to add on the size of the timber?
Answered by Niall

Hi David The measurements shown are the bed made with the end boards on the inside of the longer outside boards. You can build the bed with the end boards on the outside to make the bed wider Niall Quickcrop

Hi - can you put the 14 inch beds directly onto grass - or does it need a liner to stop the grass coming through please?
Answered by Niall
on May 07th, 2021
Hi Vicki 14 inch beds and higher don't need a liner when going on grass as grass won't grow up through that depth of soil. Really only needed if going on a patio etc Niall Quickcrop
Asked By Stephen Bellhouse & Sysan Brambell
on April 24th, 2021
Hi We have one of your 6x6 Premier Raised Beds. It is now old and the corner posts have rotten and side panels rotten or warped. We want to replace it with new timber etc. What is the best strategy for building the new bed around the old one? Is there a clever way of stopping the soil from spilling out when we take an old set of panels down ?
Answered by Niall
on April 26th, 2021
Hi Stephen What a great question. I actually had to do this myself not so long ago. So you take one side off (the ends are best to start with). Replace the end with the new boards and corner posts and fix to the existing one. Do this the whole way around until the bed is replaced. It takes a while but works really well If you take all of the old bed away in one go the soil will just all collapse. Niall Quickcrop

The timber delivered had 'ECC' markings on it, looking this up I couldn't find much information about what treatment was used apart from a website which mentioned 'Celcure ac-500' but no marking of 'Tanalith E' used either which was described in another comment here. Can you confirm that this will be safe for a vegetable raised bed please?
Answered by Niall
on April 19th, 2021
Hi Dan Yes very safe. It is the newer version of Tanalith E that we use but we don't mark this on the wood. It is perfectly fine to use for growing food. This is one of the reasons why people buy their raised beds from us Niall Quickcrop

Hi Liz That bed will need 1000 litres to fill. There are 800 litres in the tonne bags we sell so you would need one of those. You can fill the base with gravel or old soil or compost and use the good new stuff on the top Niall Quickcrop

Asked By Jacob
on January 11th, 2021
Hello, would this work on a patio with porcelain tiles if you added a liner at the bottom? I understand that the liner would let the water (but not the soil) through but would the water then just be pooling at the bottom on the porcelain tiles (since they are non-porous)? Is there any risk that the tiles would be stained from putting the raised bed and liner on top of them? Thanks!
Answered by Niall
on January 11th, 2021
Hi Jacob The water passes through the bed very slowly so there won't be any issue with it pooling as in truth the soil holds on to most of the water and it evaporates off through the plants and the top of the soil during dry periods. On the other question of staining. Even with a liner. If you remove the bed in years to come there will be marks on your porcelain. They should be easy to clean off but i can't swear by that not having done so in the past Niall Quickcrop

Asked By Bina

Does the vegetable bed had a base?
Answered by Niall
on May 04th, 2020
Hi Bina No as they don't need a base if going on soil or grass. If you are putting on a patio you can put a liner in the bed which stops the soil from leaving the bed with the water. Just put the word liner in the search bar and you will find them Niall Quickcrop

Hi, with the 8' x 4' raised bed will the 8' length bow when filled with soil, should it have some sort of bracing?
Answered by Niall
on April 26th, 2020
Hi Richard No they will be fine. This is why we only offer the 8fts in the Premier and Deluxe as the wood can handle the weight of the soil. A brace will help when the beds reach 10 years old and beyond so it certainly won't do any harm but not really needed Niall Quickcrop

What type of wood are the raised beds made from. I can see that they are treated but would you have to line the beds before adding compost/ top soil?
Answered by Niall
on April 19th, 2020
Hi Gerry The beds are made of pine and are treated so they will comfortably last 10/12 years in our climate. No need to line the inside of the beds only the base if it is going on patio or paving. However this is not to add longevity just to stop soil passing out on to your patio. No need for this if going on grass on soil Niall Quickcrop

Hi David That bed will take 1,100 litres of soil/compost to fill. We have a veg mix tonne bag which is 850 however you really only need to fill the top 10 inches with well composted topsoil the rest can be filled with whatever poorer soil or even gravel Niall Quickcrop

Morning Ian We can of course. It would cost the same as a 14 inch 6ft x 6ft as we will have to cut one and then retreat it. If you want to order a 6 x 6 on the website and then just email us with the order number explaining that you want it supplied as a 6 x 5 we will do that for you no problem. Alternatively you can just phone the office and we will arrange. Niall Quickcrop

Answered by Niall
on November 25th, 2019
Hi Jane It is of course however i would suggest getting one of the Mypex liners to line it with. This will ensure that water can pass through it but make sure that it doesn't bring any soil with it which would make a mess of your nice concrete area. Just put the word liner in the Search bar and the different options will come up Niall Quickcrop

Hi Bernie This size of bed takes 1,150 litres of soil to fill. The tonne bags have 850 litres in them so you would need one of the plus an additional 5 x 60 litre small bags or you could buy 2 of the tonne bags and use the remainder elsewhere in the garden Regards Niall Quickcrop

Hi, you don't need a liner when growing over grass. The beds are treated and will require no protection from the damp soil.

I am seriously thinking of buying one of your Timber Raised Beds. It would be placed on top of (expensive!) Indian Sandstone paving. Would a liner only be sufficient to suit both raised Bed and paving or should I fit an additional wooden base (i.e. slats with gaps between each slat) plus liner? Your advice would be greatly appreciated for which I thank you in advance.

Hi there, A few questions 1) In your experience, does adding a liner make much difference to how long the wood lasts? 2) Also does adding a liner encourage slugs to overwinter between the liner and the wood? 3) Do you supply or recommend any wood for adding a top trim to make the top of the walls wide enough to sit on? Thanks. C.
Answered by Niall
on February 12th, 2018
Good morning Christopher In my experience the liner doesn't really add anything to the length of life of the beds and you are right it does give the slugs and snails a winter home. The only real reason for the liner is if you are putting the beds on a patio etc to stop the soil leaking out on to the patio along with the water that passes through it. We have a range of beds that comes with capping around the top. It is called the Castleton range however we don't sell the capping on its own Regards Niall Quickcrop

Yes David. Provided the roof is ok to take the weight of soil. You just have to use a liner so that when the water passes through the bed it doesn't take any of the soil with it

Would you be able to tell me how much soil I will need to fill one of the 6ft x 3ftx 14 inch beds?
Answered by Andrew
on September 12th, 2016
Hi Emma. The Allotment, Premier and Deluxe 6ft x 3ft x 14 inch high beds all take the same amount of soil to fill. 595 litres. One of our tonne bags is roughly 800 litres or the standard bags of compost are 60 litres so roughly 10 of these.
Asked By Sarah P

I need to be very precise on dimensions because we are fitting panels above the raised bed to create a safe enclosure for a spoilt tortoise. Once erected are the 6x6 kits precisely 6ft x 6ft, or is that the length of the planks so that the true erected dimensions are 6ft x 6ft 2.5" (the boards being 1.25" thick)
Answered by Andrew
on July 27th, 2016
Hi Sarah. You are bang on, those are the exact dims because the plank overlaps. If you want to be completely accurate the boards are cut by the sawmills in metric so that is 1.8m x 1.86.

Hi Lorraine. I'm afraid our beds aren't pre drilled but they can be put together using a screwdriver as we use self tapping screws. I would recommend a screw gun however as it will be far quicker. I hope this helps, Andrew.

Are the corner posts 14 inches long or longer so that they can be driven into the ground? If 14 inches are you able to supply longer posts with the 14 inch raised bed? Many thanks
Answered by Andrew
on January 05th, 2015
Hi Michael Thank you for your question. The corner posts are 14 inches long and are not driven into the ground, the weight of the soil in the bed will prevent any movement once the bed is filled. If you do require longer posts (if you are building on a steep slope foe example) we can supply any length you require. For special sizes please call our sales team on 01788 298 795. I hope this helps Andrew
